I would like to clarify the oil capacity (when filling after oil change incl new oil filter) for my 2008 R25 with the Yanmar 4JH4-HTE 110 hp. My Engine Manual states Total: 5.7L for 7 deg and 6.9 L for 0 deg, Oil pan only: 5.2 L for 7 deg and 6.4 L for 0 dg. Not sure how to interperet this information as it relates to the R25. I definetly do not want to overfill and would appreciate any help on this subject.

Hello Metric

Those capacities refer to the angle which the engine is mounted. Most INBOARD engines are mounted at angle with the crankshaft LOWER, hence the LESSER oil capacity if the engine (and therefore oil pan) is tilted. I've not seen your engine mounting but my guess would be that it is indeed TILTED (close to 5-7 degrees) so your capacity will approach the lower figure. You will be fine if you start by adding the volume indicated by the lower figures then add more slowly based on dipstick measurements.

Let us know how it works out.

It's not possible to suction all of the oil out of the bottom of the pan. My Yanmar 110 takes 6 quarts (5.67 liters) to refill after an oil and filter change.

Thanks for the good input, if it was only warm enough in eastern Canada to change the oil!!
