As a relatively new owner of a 2008 R25 I have lots of questions, and a lot of things to learn before Lil Toot hits the water next spring here in the Atlantic Coast of Canada. My question of the day: is there any problem starting the engine on the trailer home in my driveway to warm the engine oil up for a more effecient oil change. I am not sure if a brief running of the engine is an issue so long as engine temp is kept well within proper range. I am wondering if this detremintal to the impeller or anything else. I did run the engine on the hard last fall to winterize it, but shut it off as soon as antifreeze came out the exhaust.

Lil Toot sits patiently in our driveway shrinkwrapped and decked out in Christmas lights waiting for next spring. Unfortunately her new owners are not as patient, but we are trying to learn as much as we can over the winter.

Any comments or suggestions on oil changes will be greatly appreciated!

HEY METRIC, AS A FORMER R 25 OWNER WHO HAS CHANGED THE OIL ON THE HARD---- DO NOT START THE ENGINE UNTIL YOU HAVE OPEN THE SEA STRAINER AND INSERTED A HOSE WITH ENOUGH WATER PRESSURE TO KEEP IT FULL WHILE YOU WARM UP YOUR ENGINE. [REMOVE THE DRAIN PLUG SO YOU DON'T FILL YOUR BILGE WITH WATER FROM THE OVERFLOW OF THE HOSE. IT'S OKAY TO SLIGHTLY INCREASE THE IDLE SPEED BUT MAKE SURE YOU DO IT WITHOUT ENGAGING THE PROP,--- [A CURIOUS CAT COULD LOSE HIS HEAD WATCHING YOU 😱 😱 YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REACH NORMAL OPERATING TEMP BUT WILL BE ABLE TO THIN THE OIL ENOUGH TO SUCK IT OUT WITH WHATEVER APPARATUS YOU USE. BE CAREFULL NOT TO OVERFILL THE CRANKCASE BY PUTTING IN THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF OIL AS YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET ALL THE OLD OIL OUT.. ANYHOO,,, GOOD LUCK AND IT WAS GREAT FOR ME TO REVISIT THIS SITE WITH HOPEFULLY SOME SALIENT INFO... I HOPE MANY OF THE TUGNUTS REMEMBER US --- WE ARE ALIVE AND WELL AND BERTHED IN ANACORTES ---- SEND US A MESSAGE 😉 😉 LOVE AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL YOU GUYS---- STEVEANDTINA

Thanks so much for the good advice!
