Does the factory recommend an oil change system for Pat's 2013 R/29 ? If yes do you have installation instructions ? f not, any suggestions ?

Because the Yanmar does not have an oil drain hose (assuming you have a Yanmar) you'll need to locate a system that can evacuate the oil through the dipstick. I personally use a Jabsco oil changer system that works well for all sorts of applications with an impeller driven pump.

Hope it helps.

I purchased a vacuum pump from West Marine. The tube is inserted through the dip stick tube into the pan. It works well on our Yanmar 4JH4-HTE. I just completed the second oil change using this pump.

I had a Reverso OP4 impeller pump for many years. Always a little slow and disappointing. Repaced it a couple of years ago with a Reverso 312 gear pump, on sale at the time for maybe $250. Wow!

I hook it up to the dipstick tube with a fairly closely-fitting rubber hose and a hose clamp which I tighten a bit before beginning to pump. It sucks like crazy - maybe 5 times as fast. Great and simple system. Only challenge is to unhook the tubing when done and put it away without spilling much oil.

Thanks to all for suggestions. One further question. Does theYanmar and Onan have drain plugs and if YES , is there room
To attach oil system drains to to both engines?

Our new (to us) R25 is ready for her first oil change.

I'm thinking of purchasing an Air Power America 2000 LiquiVac Oil Changing System for Large Engine.

Two questions:

Do any of you use/like this unit or recommend something better?

Does the tube supplied just slide down into the dip stick hole or must I purchase an adapter of some sort?

Thanks - trying to stay neat this time. 🙂

Have installed a Reverso for the Yanmar 180hp & transmission; take the oil pan plug out & transmission plug out, install a ninety degree plug, mount where you have spare room, I used the port lazarett on our Cutwater 26, no more excuses or whining about changing oil!
Good luck,

"I'm thinking of purchasing an Air Power America 2000 LiquiVac Oil Changing System for Large Engine".

I bought this exact unit and it works great. It holds 8 qts, so easily enough for a D3- 200hp Volvo.
I tried it at home with water, not a great idea, as I then had to take it apart and lube the 2 rubber O-rings and the leather part on the pump. I've only changed oil the one time with this unit so not sure how long it will last. It's actually quite fast, you preheat engine to 104 degrees then insert in dipstick tube and pump it up 30 or so times and away she goes.
I bought it from Amazon.ca and it arrived within 2 days.

I have used the manual oil change vacuum pump that West Marine sells (tall vertical design) on my Mercruiser 350 blocks and find it does a very good job. It also draws through the dipstick tube. Pump it up and it does the rest. I still remove the drain plug to get a 100% change, but that means only a small amount to avoid spilling into the bilge. So much easier than draining it all out the oil pan drain plug and cleaning it up (boat is trailered so I do it on the hard and it does not get into the water, but still a mess).

I use some really cheap pump from an auto parts store. If the oil temp is more than 120 or so you can set it up and walk away if you are careful about clamps on the battery and tube in the dipstick (use a rubber stopper with a hole for the tube) and the tube in the waste oil (put a whole in the cap of a 2.5 gallon screw top bottle). Works just fine just takes 30 minutes or so. Just make sure it is all stable and not walking away from vibration.

There is a company in Bellevue called Fumoto Valve. They make a very high quality series of valves that replace your oil drain plug. Some of the models have a hose barb on them so you can clamp a drain hose. And the flip of the valve you can drain out every drop of oil through the hose without spilling a drop.

I use it on all of my cars, and a hose-barb model on my boat. They make auto oil changes a 10 minute no-mess task.
