After the recommended twenty to thirty hour of operation, the book says you must change oil and filter. But guess what?
After having a mechanic drained out the oil and taking out the filter at $75.00 an hour, I find the nearest filter was in Wisconsin. The book says $65.00 for one. Now how much do I add for over night shipping? Andrew is having Cummins send a couple of them from Seattle. Wow, anyone want to trade a Cummins for a Yanmar. So we will set here in St Augustine for a few days at $48.00 a night. Nice place though.
Factory says this one is my baby. Freight and all. You would think Cummins would step up to the plate.
No cross reference on these filters from wix or anyother

While we are here I thought it was good time to find out where the water was leaking when filling the boat with fresh water. Found it yesterday. Top of the water tank. Need to cut a hole in the floor to get to in. The water also leaks into the bilge when hooked up to shore water. Have not found that one yet. I would be very leary of leaving these boats hooked up to shore water and then leaving the boat for any lenght of time. The track record is very poor for hose connections or anything with clamps. Andrew says the factory will fix it under warranty.

Captd, save your old filter to try and match up with a US made filter. My QSD filter is used in Jeep, VW, and Audi. A Fram replacement cost about $12. Who was the manufacturer of the filter that was in the engine? My original filter was a MOPAR. Neither VM Motori or Cummins is making the filter, probably a European filter mfg. Several European manufactured filters are sold in the states. Crank up Google and you will probably be able to find a replacement filter.

Thanks Henry, I will do that. The Mechanic took the old filter with him and could not find one. In an earlier post those suggested numbers worked for the first series of these 150's. Andrew said the change was quite a few months ago. No posts have indicated a change. But they has been a big one on oil filters. They are a lot smaller then the older versions.

FYI we are stocking the filters for sale at Wefings .

You would not beleive the trouble we went through trying to find a filter for my R25 when we changed the oil back in mid June. Cummins couldn't find one anywhere in the U.S. so they were trying to have some sent from Italy. I figured that I would go directly to the factory, my original filter was a MAHLE brand and after being transfered all over the U.S. I found out that they were not allowed to sell these to anyone other than Cummins or Mercury. Cummins N.W. had me clean the existing filter in solvent and put it back in while they located one. after a few weeks they finally sent one at no charge. Rand Day at Cummins N.W. told me that they were having a replacement one made up (a knock off) that would be cheaper and more readily available.

They assured me that this was not going to be a recurring problem and that they would have a readily available parts supply for these engines. I sure hope that from then to now they have a supply of parts. It's bad enough to pay such a high price for these parts, but it's even worse when you can't even find the parts in the first place!

Good luck.

These filters are readily available from Cummins NW and Wefings Marine. Its highly reccomended to order these ahead of time. I have a quote from Cummins on some standard items you would be looking for with pricing as well. Sorry about the confusion for everyone.

Please also refer to my post months ago on the Technical Bulletins page under Cummins Parts. This was showing by Hull # which had the new or old style oil filters.

If you use the old style filter, Fram CH8158 is a identical replacement.

Perfect! That will reduce the cost big time on that filter. Now it can be resonable 😀

Yes, but will it void a warranty?

You guys aint seen nothing yet...just wait till you order a FUEL FILTER to replace the secondary one on the block. I used to be a real Cummins fan...no more. They do not care about us, the end user at all! I sent my fuel filter back before I let them rip me off at $140.00. I'll try to retrofit something else first. I went through the same crap with the oil filter as you all describe with nothing but promises until finally got one from Randy Day. I now have 4 in stock until I can figure out a cross reference. So far, nothing else is a fit. ed

How can it void the warrantee if the engine came with a MOPAR filter, not a CMD filter? A MOPAR filter is not any better than Fram filter!
