Hello fellow Tugnuts,
We own a new 2018 RT31 CB. The dealer still has it in their possession doing additional work. Yesterday Volvo Penta was out to do initial check up and testing of the engine out on the water. I was requested to go along so that explanations could be given on the workings of the D4 engine. All that went very well. After finishing, the Volvo mechanic wanted to test the Onan generator. He fired it up and it ran great. He decided to take the top and front inspection cover off to show me the necessary serviceable parts. To our great amazement we found the Onan factory document package squeezed inside between the cover and the front of the Onan motor against the spinning pulley. There was a half inch circular burn hole through the documents caused by the spinning pulley. There was no indication that the documents were being stored in this most unlikely and unsafe place. If you do not recall ever seeing your Onan operator manual and documents consider looking behind the front panel of your generator.

Thank you very much for pointing this out. I am going to send a company wide email making sure our team removes them from the generator before and after testing is done.

Thank you for the feedback!

Thank you for responding so quickly.

THAT EXPLAINS A BIG MYSTERY!!
I recently purchased a new R31 CB (now on my 3rd C.Onan genset!! for other interesting reasons..).. but the certification paperwork for the genset that was in the boat when I bought it had a "1/2" circular hole burned in it" !! I was so mystified by it... but now I know the reason.. and perhaps why genset #1 had to be replaced...
