Onan Genset dipstick

I have 2014 R31 with an Onan Genset. The dipstick is IMPOSSIBLE to insert fully to check the oil level. I can get the stick about 4 inches into the orifice before it hits some kind of obstruction. Anyone experience this before? Ideas?
 
For whatever reason, the dipstick does seem to get stuck. I have to grab it as close to the genset opening when it gets stuck and force it in.
