Congrats on your One Year anniversary. I will be coming up on mine in a few months. I am curious to know how many operating hours you had in the year and what were your likes and dislikes. We have been only able to use our 25 in fresh water but hope to do some ICW cruising in November, if the BVI's don't call our name again .

On a side note was the second picture you posted, from Morgans Point in the ship channel? My wife is from HOU and spent many days at Clear Lake. We will be at New Braunfels in a few weeks tubing the Comel and Guadelope Rivers.

Smooth Sailing

"Lobo" also hit the 1 year old mark. 2,000 nautical miles and 400 hours. All in salt water in the Pacific North West and Gulf Islands. In 2009 I've left the dock around 50 times; some short hour plus trips; some for a few days. Now that the good weather is here I can put some serious time on. Wonderful boat. A couple of very minor problems but it seem that I, too, have an "Andrew" in my tool box. Everybody who sees the R-25 loves it. I'm working on changing the description I get from "cute" to "jaunty". Maybe that could be a T-shirt logo: "I'm not cute, I'm jaunty!"

Hope to see some of you in the San Juans, Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound and Puget Sound. I have to spend a lot of time in Washington State -- I bought an annual pass for state marine park moorage so I have to get my money's worth. It costs @ $75 to Dec 31/09. At $15 for dock and $10 for mooring buoy you only need 5 dock nights or 8 mooring buoys to break even -- then it's free.

Lobo, not to rain on your parade. But, 8 moorings would cost $155, $75 for the pass, $80 for the moorings. That works out to $19.375 per mooring. That $75 needs to be spread out over the total dock and/or moorings used. 😀

It's inexpensive and gets more so per use, but not free. I'm envious. 🙁

Last year I kept my Albin 27 Aft Cabin in a covered 12x30 commercial marina slip on the TN River, cost me $1800/yr, plus electricity and a monthly spider spraying charge. I kept my 26' sailboat in an open sailing club 12x30 slip in GA (Lake Lanier) with free electricity for $1100/yr.; of course there were dues and fees to the Club, so that wasn't my full cost. 🙂 The previous year the sailboat slip was $750/yr.; the Corps raised our lease charges even though they had lowered our lake level to an all time low and we had to remove about 30 boats from their slips because of very low, or no water. Some of the boats sat on the hard almost two years. We still have slips that can't be used because of the low water level.

This year a 10x26 commercial slip in GA for my R-21 EC is costing me $3224/yr., electricity extra, min. $5/month. 🙁

I'm working on six months of ownership. Neck problems kept me from using the tug much, but I've logged approx. 20 hours in the past three weeks. I kept the tug on its trailer until three weeks ago when I moved it to the marina; my neck was keeping me from using the tug much using the trailer.

I wish I'd bought the R-25. The R-21 EC suits what I'm doing now perfectly. But, I'll bet I could accomodate myself with the R-25.

Happy sailing to you folks.

Gene

Sure...make us feel old. Island Ranger is just over two years old, 869 hours & 5472 miles. The cruising is just delightful here. Still brings a smile every time we head out.

I'm with you, Lobo. I bought the marine park pass last week and expect to get my money's worth soon. I practiced tying up to a mooring buoy last week, and will take a three-day "practice" cruise in the South Sound next week before launching into the San Juans the first half of July. I have the month of August free and expect to spend more time out there, especially if I can catch some fish!

I have a whopping 13 hours on the Red Ranger right now, and will continue to ease her in per Yanmar recommendations. Not sure I'll get 400 hours on her this first year...but I'll try.

Keep an eye our for me and I'll do the same for you.

Such diversified pleasure! Congratulations.

A few notes: the WA State Marine Parks pass is purchased in lieu of paying for dock or buoy moorage is time. So it is a remarkable deal.

And, the second picture is inside the breakwater at Elliott Bay Marina in Seattle. I took it the day she was delivered. And the water color painting (that's the Seattle skyline in the background) appears to be adapted from another shot taken that afternoon. You can see him waving! Nice job.

Cheers,

Bruce

Your painting is Great! Did someone do it for you? I would like one of Nauti Dream.

I believe I was hiding my face in that picture Bruce.
