Last time we took our C28 out (last weekend) we un-intentionally left the fresh water pump on and sometime during the week the pressure caused a line coming up from the pump to the galley sink faucet to disconnect itself at a clamp causing 40 gallons of fresh water to be emptied into the cabinets. Everything in the cabinets was soaked and there was a little bit of standing water underneath the cabinets in the v-berth. We opened everything up and it looks like we got pretty lucky. No water made it into the salon, the v-berth itself, or the coffin. I'm assuming all of the water drained into the bilge and was pumped out by the bilge pump. You can be sure I won't forget to turn that off again.

Hello Steve,

I"m glad there was no major damage.

I'm wondering...did your fresh water pump suffer damage from running dry after it emptied the FW tank?

I haven't tried it again yet. It was running when we got on the boat so we turned it off and after we got everything cleaned up it was dark so didn't refill the fresh water tank. I got the line reconnected and will re-fill the tank today (assuming I can locate the key to open the freshwater cap.) I could hear the pump running so hopefully its ok.

Steve:

Thanks for sharing your story, hopefully it will help us all remember to turn our water pump off when we leave our boats for extended periods. In addition, for those that connect the fresh water inlet up to shore water while docked....be sure to turn the water off at its source when you leave the boat. If a water line lets go you could end up with a whole lot of water being pumped into your boat.

The surveyor reported that the galley AC electrical outlet had a dead fault, the broker said just change out the outlet and it will be fine. In preparation for repair I pulled out the stove for a better look. Everything looked ok. Well I am this far, lets flush the water tank out. I filled the tank and let all the faucets run. Water appeared next to the toilet. The wiring loom behind the stove was dripping with water. Tracing it back got me nowhere. Took out the refrigerator, no luck. I was shining a flash light behind the counter from the fridge side, but it was a friend who caught the glint of a fine spray from the back side of the dock water regulator. Closer inspection revealed a small hairline crack. Replaced the cracked city water regulator and never had any further "dead faults" 😳 I guess the former owner and myself are very lucky souls. Not sure if a ground fault receptacle would be the answer, but somehow the electrical box could be more waterproof with so much going on behind an area that is difficult to access.
