The Seattle Yacht Club sponsors an opening day Parade through the Montlake Cut. Yacht clubs from all over the PNW and Canada bring their boats, decorate with the theme and parade through the Montlake Cut. They put out a large dock with no shore power or charge to boaters in the parade to host the different clubs with assigned dock space. It is a fun event with some boats arriving as early as Wednesday. The Seattle Yacht Club gives you access to their club house, restaurant, and bar with various parties going on. The day before the parade through the cut members are decorating their boats. I belong to the CYC (WSU “Cougar Yacht Club”) and we do not have a home marina so I thought it would be fun if we could form a Ranger Tug Yacht Club to represent this group. Opening Day is usually the first weekend in May. It starts out with crew races by different Universities followed by the parade of Yacht clubs through the cut. You need to stay in Lake Washington and return to the dock after all boats have gone through the cut. That night they have live music in the bar with dancing.
Not sure what type of interest this would draw but thought it might be a great way to get together and start the boating season. The Cougar Yacht Club (CYC) does not charge a membership but supports their activities by selling burgees, clothing, etc.
