Just wondering if any R21-25 owners installed an opening windshield pane to let a little breeze in!

Idle Up,
Follow the link below to a page on Boat Trader. There is a picture of a 2003 R-21 with an opening windshield. I am sure that you could order one from Sea Glaze. I have thought of replacing the two center windshields on Solitude with opening windows however, I know I would soon take a face full of water. It seems that every time we are out, we take water to the windshield be it from wave action or a large wake.

I went as far as to contact SeaGlaze and found that there is, indeed, a replacement that opens. Cost was something like $750 (that's not including installation) so I passed. If someone has seen a more cost effective option, I'd love to hear about it.

Steve,
Cost is high but installation is free. It is easy enough for anyone of us to do. Just unscrew the old one, remove the old one (this is the toughest part since the gasket sticks to the fiberglass). Pop in the new one, screw it all down and away you go.

I have replaced two of the fixed windows with opening windows from Sea Glaze. The one in the head and the one in the aft part of the salon. Cost was $445 each.

Does anyone have an image of the opening windshield - I'm not sure I could cough up $750 but I could add it to my wish list!

If you want more breeze under way or at anchor, just rotate the overhead hatches to they open forward. Being higher up, they're less likely to take in spray than an open windshield window.

That is a great idea! Not sure why I did not think of that.......

I think Bob , former owner of Tuggin Aweigh was the first for that . Us Florida guys are way ahead of our time ........

Yeah, but you would think that a guy that lives in the desert would have thought of this one. I have changed out all but one of the fixed windows (not including the windshield) with opening windows....... Turning these hatches would also help.

Aside from getting in fresh air - I always liked a opening window for navigating home at night. Something about looking through glass that bothers me.

This last weekend I turned the overhead hatches facing forward. What a difference! Henry and the folks in the south figured this out first. It was simple, just remove the screws from the topside, the trim ring does not need to be changed, lift the hatch out carefully, rotate, reinsert and tighten all of the screws and you are done! One beer job!
