Subject: Outboard engine vs. Inboard engine
One of the aspects of having an outboard engine escaped me until I witnessed a nearby R-23 owner at my marina having his R-23 hauled out to be taken to the local Yamaha service shop a few hundred feet away.
What had happened to the R-23 while docked bow in was that a sailboat at the R-23 owner's marina had whacked his F200 engine as it navigated the marina fairway.
The upshot was that the F200's lower unit had to be completely replaced.
Now, with an inboard engine this situation of having the engine 'whacked' is not an issue. 😱 Mind you, if you have a dinghy hanging out the back off the swim step I guess that is subject to a similar fate as for the outboard engine.
