We are taking delivery of our new R29CB next week. We have a 9.5 foot RIB and a 8HP Tohatsu engine that weighs 85 lbs. We used to keep the motor on the Rib and hoist it up on davits at the stern of our sailboat. Although I'm pretty strong, I'm a little leery of trying to mount/unmount the outboard from the dinghy while on the water. I plan on installing a Weaver davit system for the RIB. So here's a couple of relevant questions for the factory or anyone else:

1. Is there a good/strong spot to mount an outboard bracket that would support such a heavy outboard?

2. What is the best location to mount a crane for the outboard?

3. Is an 85lb outboard a little big to be toting on a R29? If so, what would be the max weight you would recommend?

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

Some of our customers have used a outboard bracket that remains on the RIB and twists when the RIB is stored vertically. Please look at my responses below:

1. We sell and use the SeaDog Rail Mount kicker bracket and it installs on the AFT cockpit rails, here is a link:
https://sea-dog.com/groups/2987-rail-mo ... or-bracket

2 & 3. With the size and weight of the kicker you have it seems like it's pretty big and bulky, we sell Yamaha outboards and kickers and typically we sell either the 2.5hp or the 6hp with our RIB's. The 6hp weighs only 60lbs, to give you an idea Yamaha's 9.9hp kicker is 87lbs. You may want to think about a swivel kicker bracket for the RIB or going to a slightly smaller HP kicker but with the weight savings you are looking for. As far as a crane system for the kicker I think you might find it hard to locate an area that will work but wont take up too much space.

Hopefully this all helps and if you want feel free to email me direct with any additional questions you may have. Congrats on the new boat!!!

Thank you,
Kevin Lamont

ST-275 Tilt Davit for Inflatable's

The low profile tilt position is approximately 37°. This allows the motor and fuel to remain on the tender when stowed.
Low profile stowage position provides exceptional stern visibility with virtually no air cupping or drag.
Smooth, manual one-person launch or retrieval utilizing the included block-and-tackle and cleat.
Hinged base, mounted on swim step allows davit to disconnect at top and swing into the water, clearing the swim step when tender is launched.
Lightweight, super buffed, marine-grade stainless steel tubing prevents corrosion for long-lasting finish.

SPECIFICATIONS ST-275
Rigid Fiberglass-Bottom Inflatable's.
Maximum Capacity: 275 lbs. {Including Motor, Fuel Tank, Etc.)
Maximum Dinghy Length: 12'.
Hinge Mounting Width: 36'.
Weight: 25 lbs.
This is the davit system we had on our 29cb. It was exceptional. Held our Ranger dingy with a 9.9 hp yamaha attached. Easily raised and lowered and still could see out the stern while underway. No hassling around with loading and unloading the heavy outboard.

Thank you, Kevin and Craig! Any other experience welcome!

I installed a motor davit that is mounted in the cockpit to lift the motor off the dingy and I store the motor in the cockpit to reduce the weight on the swim platform. Garhauer marine motor davit
