Fellow Tugnutters, Please tell me how you hoist your motor on to your dinghy. Do you use hoist system and if so what brand.

I used a St Croix davit to lift my 10 HP. I rigged an RV 12V motor with leads to the battery from Harbor Freight, replaced the wire rope on the winch with dynema, also from Harbor freight, no-stretch line. It has a remote, davit swings 300 degrees, clears bimini on my R27. A real back saver, to only muscle required, is in the thumb to press the button.

I mounted a Garhauer Motor Lift with 34-Inch Arm. I use it to lift a 9.9 Mariner outboard. I use it also to assist in lifting a 270 aluminum RIB up. I have photo's in my Album.

Wow BB Marine, you have done a lot of great stuff with your boat. Thanks for all the great pics!!!

What boat and motor HP are enquiring about? I have a small portable West Marine lift mounted in one of my pole holders on my Ranger Tug 25SC

Hi Whynot, we are getting a RT 29 and have a Tohatsu 4 stroke 9.9. Weighs about 95 pounds.

I also have the Garhauer lift. I mounted it on the swimstep and have the upper mount on the railing. The railing is a bit flimsy for that load so I use a piece of dowling and a ratchet strap to lock it in to the railing on the transom. It makes it much stronger. It works really well to swing that 9.9 from the transom out to the dinghy. I also have a picture in my Tugnuts Album.

Thank You Nocal! Looks like a good setup!

We noticed that the Forespar Motor Mate was not represented in this post. We have found this product to be ideal for our R-23. Easy to mount, removable, easy to stow, light weight, flexible and provides security during a critical transition: from boat to tender. It can lift 100#.

Our dual use of our Yamaha F6 as a kicker and tender propulsion makes the function of the lift a critical item. Of course, the factory option swim platform railings are needed in this installation. At ~$550 a bit expensive but we think of it as insurance for protecting our $2k motor and our weekend.

See our Photo Album for more details or our installation. Let us know if you have questions.

Looking for insight from fellow Tugnutters and the RT crew on the strength and integrity of whether the swim platform & railing on a 2020 R-29 CB will support the use of a lifting davit engine hoist unit such as the Garhauer LD 6-1 M short or long arm with 100lb lifting capacity (https://www.garhauermarine.com/transom- ... avits.html) ?

Planned use is for lifting a 60 lb Yamaha 6hp outboard from cockpit rail to RIB and back. The swim platform will also be holding the RT RIB on the standard swim platform davits.

Thanks,

Marc Doyle

Hoist not needed with the SUZUKI 2.5 Outboard Motor for our 8’ 2” RIB dinghy. The Suzuki only weighs 30 pounds. A bit awkward to move from mount to dinghy transom but not heavy! Yeah, it’s not really a fast solution but it works just fine.
