One of the overhead salon hatches is leaking. I’d Like to
Reseal it. What is the best way to do this? What type of sealant?

Buy 5/16 X 1/4 EPDM weather strip from Home Depot. Install two continuous strips around underside of flange stager joints and reinstall.

Just to be clear mount to the underside flange that meets the deck?
There another interior trim piece .

Thanks

Yes, remove the hatch and remove the existing sealing gaskets. Run two lengths of new EPDN around perimeter. Make sure you make the corner turns adhere correctly. Then place hatch back down and screw it in tight and reinstall interior trim piece.

Also remember to check for rot or water damage in the deck when you re-bed the hatch. Having repaired leaky hatches several times on a sailboat, sometimes it is a simple repair and sometimes it requires a lot of work... I can't remember whether the decks on our boats are wood-cored, but if they are, where there is a leak that is more than just a few weeks old, there is probably at least some rot.

If there’s any moisture. What’s the best way to dry it out!
Thanks

So follow up questions as I am looking at hatch and preparing the undertaking. The existing hatch is sealed in place with sealant. So I would remove the numerous screws and clean up the sealant. The two strips of the EDPM around the flange-in place of the sealant. How did you run both strips in relation to the screw holes ( inside outside etc). Also did you use any sealant on the screws themselves, when reinstalling?

Thanks
Joe

Stick the gasket around the outside edge of the frame leaving it in enough so as not to push outside the frame. Then abut the second strip. Remember to stager the joints. I do not understand your question regarding the screens. Do you have retractable ones? In any even anything inside the cabin and below the roof should not require sealing.

Hi thanks,

Screen was meant to say screws — do I place sealant on screws.. There are like a 8-10 screws that go through the flange into the deck. I assume I’m NOT going to want the screws to pierce the two EDPM gaskets.
