I am assuming all Rangers have a monitor screen that repeats the Garmin from the helm located midships on port side of helm ... for the life of me, I cannot find the breaker that gives it power - anyone know where it might be? I feel like a dumbbutt asking, but I was doing systems checkout and discovered I did not know how to turn it on ... I know it works because we had it on at sea trials, but .... HELP!!  Thx much - doug

Hello Doug,

We only have the one plotter and autopilot display coming out of the factory for the R-25sc If you have another display, that wouldn't have been installed from us. My guess is, whoever installed it used one of the open accessory breakers on the 12 volt panel. I would try that first.

Thanks,
-Kenny

Hi Kenny ... learned something .... but is also making we wonder if it is 120VAC instead of 12v .... they guy I bought it from was a computer programmer so he may have used a monitor off the shelf and if so, that would probably be AC ...
I will give him a call - I just thought I was being blind and overlooking something obvious to you guys.

When I figger it out, I will send you a pix - might be a nice option for you guys to offer.

Another question while I am talking to the factory. There was a little while plastic bar that went on the back door opening to the swim step - it got broken off .... where might I find that? I have a pix but cannot figger out how to attach here.
Many Thanks Kenny!
Doug

Kenny - I talked to previous owner and he said that it was not a monitor - it is a factory installed TV/DVD player - it does have HDMI cable so it can repeat the Garmin display, but he did say it was installed as TV/DVD entertainment by Ranger .... so I am not sure if it is AC or DC ... does that piece of info help? I can take a picture of it when I go to marina next week ...
Sure appreciate the help - doug

Hey Doug,

The TV we installed was a DC unit. Can you check power at the plug going into the TV with a multimeter?

Hi Kenny - now that I know it is DC I will be on the boat all next week and will start tracing the power wire (and yes, will take DVM) ... if you guys have any additional info about the unit and/or installation I would appreciate it. We have wifi in the marina and I have computer on board .... worst case is I can make a jumper and be sure the unit is operating but I can also unwrap the wire bundle and handwalk it back to power source .... am guessing I will find something wonky there or a fuse or something like that.
THANK YOU MUCH - that is one more piece of the puzzle I did not have.

Doug,

I am not at our boat to confirm (R27 Classic, but should be the same as the R25SC) but I don’t believe there is a switch for the power to the TV. There is a red LED that is on all the time. You should have a remote for the TV to turn it on. When turned on the red LED changes to green. If the red LED is not on I would suspect a blown fuse. Not sure where the fuse is right now but I would check the fuse blocks in the port cockpit locker, behind the dash, and possibly in-line behind the Fusion radio. I will be at the boat this evening and can do a little checking for the fuse then.

Curt - my apologies - I saw your note but had 'Kenny' on the brain .... Ivan at RangerTugs said that it should be same as R27 so I am going to get that manual downloaded. The manual for the R-25 is missing a lot of stuff that I think came out in subsequent manuals ... I I was in submarines in Navy and the manuals were comprehensive and a real aid to troubleshooting .... it would be nice if Ranger could expand their manuals, but I have found most civilian manuals are usually missing a lot of info, so Ranger is better than most ... and I did see some schematics for a 31 so I am hoping to have enough clues to get to serious discovery .... had some things come up and have not been out to boat in some days, but (a) I am hoping the factory methodology is fairly standard and that each installation is not a new science fair experiment 🙂 and I will figure out the logic. When I find out and get a real answer and solution I promise to do a drawing and publish it out here - I cannot think I am the only one this has happened to. I want to thank everybody who is giving me ideas of where to look .... I will find it eventually. Many many thanks to all ...Doug

Today is just not my day: Ivan said the wiring was similar to a R-27 instead of 31 ... doug

Hi Doug,

I’m on our R27 Classic now. The fuse for the TV is in the fuse panel behind the helm dash, accessed via the starboard door in the V-berth. The TV fuse is a 5 amp ATO blade type fuse. It is the fourth fuse socket on the right working up from the positive connection post (multiple red wires), or third fuse socket on the right working down from the negative post and buss bar (yellow wires). Note, when the door is closed the fuse panel is actually upside down so up and down could be confusing here but when the door is open, down is towards the bow and up is towards the stern.

In any case, here is a link to the R27 Classic Owners manual which should pretty much match the R25SC. Fuse locations are on page 12.

I hope this helps!

Curt - many MANY thanks - will be down on boat Sunday and I will do a seek and destroy. I should be able to find it. Hope it is just a fuse issue ... as said, it was fine when we sea trialed it about 2 months ago so at first I thought it was pilot error and then started digging into it ... I really appreciate the help. I will post what I find. Thanks again!

😀 SUCCESS!!!! It was exactly as Curt described - THANK YOU - and I found out a couple of things: The R-27 manual says it should be a 7.5A, and mine had a 4A fuse in it but that was not the problem, and this might be worth sharing: no power to TV; pulled out the fuse and tested it and it tests good ... poke it back into fuse slot and wallah: power to TV! So I pulled a couple of other fuses and they had a 'darkened" coating on the blades - some kind of oxidation! When you pull the fuse out you abrade a clean surface and contact is made .... so I got a can of DeOxit and ginerly sprayed the fuse block, dried it out with hot air gun and they sprayed it with that Ace silicone spray to slow down corrosion ... and it all works. SO - THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT CHIMED IN TO HELP AND ESPECIALLY CURT WHO GOT ME ON THE RIGHT TRACK. I guess the moral to the story is to inspect fuse blocks a couple of times a year, but I am not sure I would have caught that. The wiring diagrams in the R-27 are perfect. And yes, I now keep a multimeter ON the boat !! THANK YOU ALL!!!
