Hello ‘nuts,

First time boat owner here with an R23. Loving all the new things to learn and pay for with our new activity. Had a question on winterization... We keep Ad Nauseum in a boat house in Vancouver, BC. We plan to cruise around in the winter... What if anything do the experiences here suggest for our climate and situation?

I’ve done a bunch of reading with lots of conflicting opinion. Your info would be appreciated!

Some thoughts for you...

1) Add fuel additive to fuel tank during winter months that Yamaha sells by the quart. I use 2 quarts for my 150 gallons.... although Yamaha will suggest a lot more than this. 😱

2) Run the engine for 20 mins every 30 days and this includes a kicker motor if you have one.

3) Keep the boat warm and run a dehumidifier unit inside the cabin to deal with moisture build up and reduce mold from happening.... warm enough to avoid freezing temps.

4) Baking soda in the Refrigerator.

5) check the boat at least every 30 days.

6) Pump out and clean holding tank.

7) Keep batteries healthy with periodic charging.

Barry what are you using for black water tank cleaning? Odorlos?

I have been using SaaL NoFlex digestor through the season but think I need to do something more serious for the end of the season to kill off the bugs.

I'm using Odorlos. However, my quick test of placing some toilet paper (TP) in a jar with a solution of water & Odorlos has given me pause. The TP was still intact after several days. I was expecting it to be trashed and in pieces. So I'm not convinced about its claims. I even gave it a chance to disintegrate by shaking the jar, but the TP stayed intact.

My cleaning along with the Odorlos treatment is by pouring several buckets of water into the toilet after having fully pumped out and then pump out again until I see clear water exiting.

Isn't Odorlos designed to break up and digest organic material, not paper? Any TP used on a boat should 'disolve' all on its own in water. Put TP and water in a jar, shake, and see. I use Scott single ply. It falls apart in water pretty fast.

On edit........My bad, Odorlos *claims* to break down tissue.

the Zaal noflex digestor is supposed to breakdown tissue and organics. Im after something that will kill off the bacteria
