Paint or stain cockpit overhang?

I've been following these threads for a while and think that the volume of coverage is the most important factor. We applied 4 coats of Epifanes Varnish and I plan to renew with two more every year or 2. The teak and holly is going to get wet no matter what steps you take to protect it, so fully sealing with multiple coats will present a waterproof barrier.
 
I agree Rocky!! After spending all of that time sanding and staining this is going to be on my yearly "To do list ".
