The simple function of the parallel switch I understand is to combine starting and house batteries with an On- Off switch. On my 29 C I have an On-Off-1-2 switch. This suggests to me that I can combine all 6 batteries or combine the house with the starting or the thruster batteries. Is this so? How would one confirm whether this is the case - other than take the switch off the backboard and trace the wiring ?

If your engine won't start, you can add 1-house batteries, 2-thrusters, or both to get enough power to start.
It might be 1-thrusters, 2-house. I'll try to confirm that, and let you know.

This is copied from my operations manual. It doesn't specify which battery is one and which is two, although I suppose that doesn't really matter all that much.

"Should the ENGINE battery be insufficiently charged to start the engine, the HOUSE/THRUSTER batteries may be momentarily connected to provide a boost. Turn the BATTERY PARALLEL SWITCH located in the port side lazarette to the PARALLEL 1, 2 or Both position. Return the BATTERY PARALLEL SWITCH to the “off” position after the engine starts."
