Subject: PFDs
I've had the West Marine PFD that's self inflates and has a soft collar like material that is supposed to make wearing the PFD for extended times by not rubbing and irritating the back of the neck. I've used this PFD for around 7 years and always wear it when on the boat.
However, as much as the soft collar was supposed to increase comfort I have found over the 7 years or so that the comfort that started off being fine is now no longer. After an hour or so I find myself continually raising the PFD to relieve the pressure on the back of my neck. I've tried many different approaches to make things better, but this has failed.
So I started looking around for another PFD that would be more comfortable to wear for extended times.
I came to the Mustang Survival PFD (Model MD2981-123 - Read/Black). This can be viewed here https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y1XSG24/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. You will note there's no material that will rub on the back of the neck. I've worn this PFD around the house for several hours and it is far more comfortable than my West Marine PFD.
Just saying.... and passing along my findings. 🙂
Stay safe and always wear your PFD when out on the water 🙂 ..... and this was something CaptMac (Passage Weaver) insisted I do when we had our R-25 (Classic) training with him for 2 days.
