So, my R27 was sitting on the lift, plugged into shore power, shore power on, battery charger on. I noticed the Balmar SG200 indicated current in the neighborhood of -200 amps. I turned off the battery charger and disconnected shore power, but she’s still drawing -200A from the house bank. I decided to pull individual fuses from the 24/7 fuse block to see if I noticed any changes. The only change was when I put the CO sensor fuse back in, the SG200 started indicating about a -400A draw. The gauge continues to show this with or without shore power and battery switches on or off.

I’m hoping this is a problem with the gauge or the shunt. As of a couple hours ago, the battery charger indicated all battery banks fully charged. I’ll probably try to reach Balmar tech support tomorrow, but I’m curious to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Locate the DC Shunt, determine the size of the Shunt, and measure the voltage drop across the shunt and use this calculator to calculate current or use a DC clamp.

To see what the actual current draw is.
