I am in the process of making and installing a hot water bypass system using plastic valves. The valves are threaded to accept the threaded 1/2” hose barb fittings for the water lines. Should I use Teflon tape on the threaded connections? Most of my internet searches indicate this is not necessary, but I always like to ask the experienced first!

Any input is appreciated,

Al Sr.

It's only necessary on the threaded connections, the barbed connections get double clamped.

Why bypass the hot water?

I wasn’t sure if the plastic threaded connectors get the Teflon tape as does the metal fittings.

Bypassing the hot water heater for winterizing.
