We have a 2016 R29S with Garman 7612's. The new boats come with 8612. What is the difference?
 
Screen resolution and position of the SD card slot, mostly. Panbo and / or Garmin's website have the full rundown (Garmin lets you do a comparison; screen res is the big difference).
 
The 7 was replaced by an 8 and the invoice increased $10,000. I'm just guessing!
 
Besides what others stated. A coating on the screen makes it easier to see in sunlight. Helpful for the command bridge.
