PNW Rendezvous: Friday's Program & Your Ideas

Last year or maybe the year before, any tug owners that welcomed other tug owners an open invitation to board placed a sign in their window indicating it was OK to board to take a look at things such as modifications and additions to the tug.

I thought this was an excellent idea and one that could be used this year....

Barry it's in the works, that was fun last year, great ideas on how to fix up your Ranger Tug.

Could you possible place the photos on a USB flash stick. If so I could import them into my Apple laptop and help you produce a decent show and if you like could then post them on a web server. However, if you want the show resident on your laptop for showing at the Bremerton rendezvous you will need someone savvy with PC systems as I'm an Apple user and would not want to mess up your system. Putting a 'good' show together takes time for it to be truly cogent. 🙂

BARRY AND GILL,, THANKS--- I AM ASSUMING A USB FLASH STICK IS SIMILAR TO THE LITTLE BLACK BOX I POKE INTO THE SIDE OFMY PC SO I DON'T HAVE TO PLUG IN MY MOUSE  WILL WINDOWS TELL ME HOW TO SHOVE ALL THOSE PICTURES INTO IT :?: STEVE

How about ideas for making fresh water. I'm sure there are ideas that span from inexpensive to expensive solutions. Several Tugnuts have posted water maker techniques and a parts list for such solutions along with cost would be helpful to others I'm sure.

Ideas for converting hand operated heads to electric operations would be a good topic for some maybe. Does Ranger sell an upgrade kit by chance ? Does Ranger have suggestions for this maybe ?

I think it was Jeff M. that said his solution was to buy an R27.

Fresh Water:

Herb,

Strange-----I was told by the same guy that a R-29 with a Spectra 150 water maker would do the trick !! I'm sure that would be a very interesting talk.

I have to tell all of you how exciting this whole event is turning into:

There are a record number of boats coming
Owners from several states are flying in
11 back-to-back owner's forums on Friday spanning a wide range of interests
Entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights
Incredible food provided by wonderful people (they know who they are)
A record number of vendors coming to answer questions on Saturday
Gifts for all
A silent auction of cool stuff to benefit a good cause
A large number of employees from the factory to join in the fun
Demos of the new boats

This more than a just a regional rendezvous, this is a national gathering of wonderful people.

And, the Bremerton Marina is being an excellent host

The deadline for to sending in your registration is fast approaching, if you are on the fence, you need to decide. If you are not coming, you are going to miss something really, really special.

I think this will be a $100 million event. 😀

I am posting the docking instructions on this thread as well, just to make sure that the work gets out:

When you come to the Bremerton Marina for the Rendezvous, please use these instructions because we have up to 70 boats coming with most coming on Thursday and Friday:

1. Once you can see the breakwater of the marina, which is close to the Washington State Ferry Terminal, switch your VHF radio to CHANNEL 68
2. Say, "Ranger Rendezvous, Ranger Rendezvous this is ________(your boat's name)"
3. Me or one of my trusted and trained dockmasters will answer you with, "This is Ranger Rendezvous, what is the length of your vessel?"
4. The length of your vessel tells us what part of the marina to direct you to. The Ranger 25's and 27's and the Cutwater's will be on the inside of the breakwater. The Ranger 29's and a few of the Ranger 21's will be on the finger piers that are close to the breakwater.
5. As you go around the breakwater, look for the dockmasters wearing the orange reflective vests as they will guide you and talk to you about where to go. There are NO assigned spaces. You will be assigned to the next available space. It will be your choice to turn your boat around to dock on a specific side.
6. The dockmasters will provide assistance in initially securing your boat to the cleats. The final tie up is on you.
7. Then, you must go to the marina office to pay your moorage fee with the Port of Bremerton before you register for the Rendezvous.

See you soon!

I'm not sure if this is or should be considered an idea... but when I met Jim & Lisa on Kismet (red hull R27) in Roche Harbor a few days ago one of the first things Lisa ask me for was my 'boat card'. I'd never heard of a 'boat card', but Lisa was quick to share theirs. It was kinda like a business card in size and had all the details one wanted too share with other boaters. I thought this useful and an easy way to share data.

So having mentioned this I will offer my services to create 'boat cards' for any and all who would like to have them created. I haven't worked out the details for doing this yet, but I know my daughter #1 who's a graphics designer and illustrator would jump at the opportunity to get creative for us... 😀

Hey... several people have asked me for a demo of my Torqueedo @ Rendezvous. If you wish for a demo just stop by our R25 named LAXEY which has a bright Sunset yellow Portland Pudgy attached to the swim step -- you cannot miss it from over 2 nm distance. 🙂 Our Torqueedo is a long shaft model Travel 1003 rated at 3HP and weighs in at 29.3 lbs.... Fully waterproof, has GPS calculation of remaining range, Solar-chargeable and can be disassembled for easy transport and storage.

The lithium-manganese battery is rated to lose around 4% per year so you can safely assume many years before the battery needs to be replaced. I normally charge it before winter sets in and when I check it in spring time it still has 90%+ charge level. I used it around marina twice recently for maybe two hours and battery charge level was still at around 80%, and amazingly enough, after leaving it assembled on my dingy overnight it climbed up to 92% 😱

We bought this motor to ensure we could travel at 2 knots for at least 15 miles to shore in and around the PNW waters. Having a portable iCom water proof VHF radio and the Torqueedo GPS info on hand could be a life saver for us.
