Hi All,
It looks like there might be some interest in this so I guess it's on! Late April/Early May perhaps? This is out first trawler and our first meet-up like this so we are real greenhorns at it. Any and all suggestions for how this should go are welcome! Let's get this party started!

Location wise, Arabella's Landing in Gig Harbor has been on our list since we got the Waggoners Guide at the boat show last year. We're also very new to bigger boats so I figured a marina is probably a good idea vs anchoring out.

We also really enjoyed Poulsbo and Port Orchard if people want to venture further. Alderbrook was amazing but is quite a travel day for a short weekend getaway.

We won't know our availability for late April/early May until February's club baseball scheduling meeting. Happy to help with planning once we do know!

Awesome! We were also thinking Gig Harbor might be a good spot. We're very flexible so I'm sure May would be just fine with us.

I realized that at 14u we have a lot more dead time because some boys are in HS, and I can make sure any Sunday games are late in the day.

How about May 1-3? Avoids mother's day and the Poulsbo Viking Fest later in the month.

I'm sure that week end would work just fine for us. I thought we were talking a day trip?

Oh sorry I assumed we'd do an overnight sort of like the one at Kingston in August.

If we want to just do a day trip we could probably hit the city dock in Gig Harbor or see how many boats we can jam onto the guest dock for 7 Seas or Tides Tavern 🙂

We're open to either option, just fun to meet other local boaters.

A rendezvous and convoy to the Tides Tavern would be a blast!

We'll probably just make a long day of it. We are really looking forward to meeting other boaters and hearing how they manage longer trips.

So we'll say Tides Tavern on Saturday, May 2? We can plan to convoy over from Zittels if you want.

Just an FYI that Tides Tavern is 21+. Our kids will just hang out on the boat (or at home), but wanted to make sure nobody gets surprised.

This sounds like great fun. Most likely, it will be just Kathy and I and we are both WELL over 21! HeHe.

Howdy Chris,
This is going to be a real blast! Zittles or somewhere off Johnson Point would be a good place to gather up. Since we are new at this would you mind being lead boat in the convoy? We'll take the tail and see how many other boaters we can squeeze into the middle?

Happy to do that! We're traveling for the holidays for the next couple weeks but I have a note on my calendar to do some more planning for this trip in January.

We usually make a Google doc with logistics for each trip we take so I'll start with that and share it here.

That would be great. Thanks.

Alright we finished up a fun ski trip and are back home. I started a Google Doc for this trip here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sPJ-8FqTKXWWKGLwc_D9vR8q8mreOyfXwM1gtO-oTn0/edit?tab=t.0

The current rough plan of the day for Saturday May 2, 2026 is:
  • VHF Working Channel: 71
  • 11:30am Aweigh Message departs Swantown en route Zittel’s
  • 1:00pm Rendezvous with OverTime at Zittel's Marina Inc
  • 1:30pm Depart Zittel’s for Gig Harbor (expected arrival 2:15pm)
  • Jerisich Dock | Gig Harbor, WA as backup (free as long as you don’t stay past 8pm or connect to water/power, rafting encouraged on the east side of the dock)
  • Walk or dinghy to Tides Tavern 11am-9pm (21+) - guest dock (2h max), rafting encouraged, often busy
  • 6:00pm Aweigh Message departs Gig Harbor en route Zittel’s (expected arrival 6:45pm)
  • 7:00pm Aweigh Message departs Zittel’s en route Swantown
The Google doc is viewable by anyone. If you'd like edit/comment access, send me the email address associated with your Google account to christopher.j.morgan@gmail.com

Looking forward to it! Hopefully we can find some more folks to join (it is the same day as SYC Opening Day in Lake Washington, but I'm not sure how many people come from the South Sound to go to that). I'll be going to the boat show a few times so I'll mention it to folks that I meet there.

This looks great! Thanks for doing it. I saw Brian and Rosemary (American Eagle) yesterday and mentioned this thread. They are excited also.

Great! Not sure where they are based, but we are happy to rendezvous with them before we get to Zittel's if needed. I mostly did the timing to avoid hitting 5 kts of current in the Narrows and super-low tide at Gig Harbor entrance since I'm not sure how many people have transited the Narrows in "exciting" conditions before 🙂

As we get closer to the trip, we can talk about weather minimums and other logistics. Maybe we could even make some kind of small memento/swag for folks that join.

Brian and Rosemary (American Eagle) are at Zittles also.

Hi. My c-32 slip is in Gig Harbor so I am not sure how this would work in terms of signing up.
My wife, the admiral, and I can meet the group for activities including joining the group at Tides.
@capnmorgan how can I join the activities?

I started a Participants list on the Google doc I shared above and added a link to your Tugnuts profile (as well as information for everyone else I know about who is coming or might be coming). As we get closer to the event and have a more final headcount, I'll reach out to Tides Tavern to secure some seating for us.

You're of course welcome to rendezvous with us anywhere on our inbound route or as we return to our home ports, and if we successfully turn this into a regular thing, we'll make sure that we pick somewhere other than Gig Harbor for the next one!
