Poor cockpit drainage

Hi,
i have a 2010 21 EC Tug and have noticed a serious problem with drainage on my boat. Whenever it rains (even with the bimini up) or i wash the boat a large puddle develops just outside of the cabin door. Unless i manually push the water to the rear drain the puddle stays put. Also, the rear gunnel area on the ouside of the transom holds water and does not drain off.
I removed the 25' of chain off the bow and there is no added weight in the cabin and has been like this since delivery.Any ideas on what is going on would be appreciated

Does this occur when the boat is in the water or on the trailer? I also have a 2010 R-21EC and do not have the problem. If this is happening when the boat is on the trailer, I would suggest cranking the bow up (on the trailer) a little higher. I had the same problem with an old Bayliner I had and cranking the bow higher fixed it. The bow was too low when on the trailer.

These little "water traps" can be an irritant I had a similar puddle form on a previous boat right on top of the flush deck fill for the gas tank.
I notice that you mention needing to, "manually push the water to the rear drain". On my '05 R-21 there are 4 drains in the cockpit, 2 front and 2 rear. Perhaps there are now only 2 rear drains in the "EC" tugs or maybe the 2 front drains were "missed" on your boat... either way I think the cockpit sole would still be above the bilge there so it could be easy to just add a couple of drains in the problem area. First thing I'd do is ask the factory if there are supposed to be drains there (call'em, they're real nice). If there should be,,,ask them if they'll send you a couple of the round stainless drain covers (and a couple of matching holes. 😉 )
The rear gunnel puddle will take a bit more "engineering", But it would involve adding a small drain there as well, This drain would need a bit of tubing to run the water where you want it, either to the bilge or to a small thruhull.

I have a 2008 model and it is about the only thing that irritates me. When on the trailier, even with the jockey wheel cranked up, water pools around the door and must be swept or sponged away.

hmmm.there are only 2 drains in the rear of the cabin....it happens only in the water that i know of. Extra drains are a good idea, i just have to figure out what is under the outside cabin door before i start drilling.I may call the company and ask about that

Have not been on a 21EC lately but if you take to cover off the engine, can't you look under the deck, maybe even with a mirror and a flashlight to take a look at it?

I also have the collection of water on the gunnel area behind the cockpit. Since my tug is air conditioned it has two batteries in the rear storage area which probably helps to drain the cockpit. That gunnel area should have been rounded, for a number of reasons.

My '08 R21 has a pooling problem in the forward end of the cockpit when it is on the trailer and getting it's post-cruise bath. There are two dime-sized holes in the corners and these allow the bath water to slowly drain . . . BUT INTO THE WHEELHOUSE! After I park the boat, it rests on a slight incline to the stern and together with the raised jack, the water eventually drains out. I have not found a pooling problem while in the water, so I assume that the drainage is as functional as it should be. Similar holes should do the job for you, and if a problem ensues, they can always be plugged again. You will need to be careful of underlying structures when you drill, though.
