As I'm continuing to explore the nooks and cranny's of the '07 R25, I noticed it has a raised foot "well" on the port-side similar to the helm side. The helm side has the engine hot water heater in it. I am wondering what might be lurking in the raised well on the port side? Could I convert this into more storage?? Anybody cut a access door into this? Appreciate any and all responses.
Thanks,
Rick

Just reach down and lift it out. I use it for an extra battery and storage.

Gerlots,
could you post a photo? My 2007 (hull #15) R-25's footwell is solid. I'd also like to know if anyone has cut a door and created more storage.
Joe

Mine is solid also. Molded as part of the cabin sole. I may have to do some exploratory drilling.....

Raise the battery hatch and take a look sideways with a flashlight.
If it can be storage I would be tempted to cut a hatch from inside the cave and leave the step solid.
When cutting be alert for the battery switch cables.

I may have not explained this very well. This is the fiberglass raised foot rest below the port seat (in the cabin) as it is facing forward; directly across from the helm seat. The raised portion of the fiberglass sole; opposite the heater that is under the helm foot rest.

You might be able to gain access or, at a minimum, have a peek at what is beneath the raised area by removing the rear cover in berth area. I know that removal of the rear berth cover on starboard side opens up a view of entire side of hull and area under the engine coolant heater. If I recall correctly it is mounted using four screws.

Hi Rick, On my 2014 the area you describe houses the A/C unit and associated air outlet. It is hinged on the inboard side and folding the seat out of the way reveals two screws that should allow access to underneath. If you don't have A/C you may well have plenty of space under there. Hope this helps.

Rick & Sue,
I definitely understand the area to which you refer. We may have to ask Andrew or Kenny about this. I'm always looking for additional storage.
Joe

Denny-O and Gerlots seem to be speaking of the port side steps in the cockpit area. Rick & Sue and I are talking about the footwell at the 1st Mate's seat, opposite the helm.

You are right and I am wrong. Please post the ultimate findings.

I did remove the cover from the port side V berth (per Mike and Judy's suggestion) and it does expose the area under the foot well. It contains a BUNCH of wires, which will need to be organized and routed in an orderly manor to be able to use the space for storage. If you start cutting into the foot well for a door - be very careful to not nick any wires. I am trying to clean up all the wiring on this boat (I'm use to aircraft wiring and am appalled at the mess in this boat), so I will add this jumble to my list of needed fixes - before I try to make it into a storage area. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
Rick
