Portable Air Conditioner Recommendation

Refurbishing a Classic R-25 on the hard coping with intense Florida heat. Does anyone have a recommendation for a truly portable air conditioner that will actually work? Exhausted from wading through all the online marketing bs trying to find a product that performs as stated. Thanks for any input.

When the Webasto AC in the main cabin of our R31 died, we used a portable AC vented through the round port hole until we replaced it. It kept the temperature around 74 last summer here in the Florida gulf coast.

Appreciate your reply. This would definitely work, thanks, but unfortunately you obviously have more room on your R31, than we have on our R25. Have looked at similar products, but too heavy to heft up a ladder as our project is sitting on her trailer and we are seniors, not as strong as we once were. Having room to work around the unit in addition to accommodating a drain hose is a challenge. Been testing different camper/RV portables out there and so far nothing performs as advertised. A regular fan works just as well as the hyped-up expensive toys out there. Am continuing the search, but at this rate Fall is around the corner and maybe relief in sight. We are in northern Fla/Jax area.

We bought one at Lowes in Bradenton when we "thought" our AC had quit working. It fit in our R25 OK. It's about 1 foot square and less than 3 feet tall. No drain hose needed and weighs about 35 pounds. I'm not sure you would throw it on your shoulder and climb a ladder but from the bed of a pickup it can be done. The exhaust hose fit in the window without much trouble. It does cool the boat very well.

We bought a Zero Breeze Mark 3 for our 2023 R27 (outboard) for those times when we are “boater homing” and the boat is on the trailer. Our purpose was to keep the V-berth cool enough for sleeping. The exhaust and condensate hose is directed out the helm window using a panel that fits into the window opening. The cool air is directed towards the berth with a hose fed through the canvas that isolates the area from the rest of the boat. It’s about the same BTU rating of a small window unit AC and draws about 32 amps DC on the high setting. With our lithium battery system that should last through the night. The unit is only about 22 pounds so its portability is good. We live about 70 miles south of Jax on the St. Johns River and the heat here is intense so I’m not sure if it’s enough for keeping the entire boat cool on a summer day. It does make the berth habitable.
