Thinking of using a gas1800/2300 Inverter/generation for power usage on my 2014 CW 28. will run only when using microwave/coffee maker, etc.

Question : Can I plug my shore power cord into the generator, if I have the correct adapter ?

Thks

Yes, but you need to make sure that your inverter does not attempt to pull 30amps as a small generator can only supply about 15amps.

Microwave will use about 900W and a coffee maker could use up to 1500W (don't run both at the same time), make sure your hot water tank is turned off. The rest will probably go into charging your batteries. Not sure what inverter you have, but if its supplies 30amps @ 13V thats about 400W. You're basically out of power at this point with the other 2 consumers you've described. My Victron Multiplus will charge at 120amps, that's basically all the power from your generator without even running any 120V AC loads.

I have done with with both Honda and Ryobi generators. Depending on your generator, it may have a floating ground which could cause a reverse polarity light on your AC panel. Both Honda Euro 2200 and Ryobi 2200 have floating grounds. If you search elsewhere on this site, someone explained how to make an AC male plug with a wire that ties ground to neutral (or search online.) This adapter plugs into the unused outlet on the generator and will make the generator seem as though it does not have a floating ground and everything works fine.

The UL tag on the appliance should provide a rough idea of the wattage the appliance consumes. You can also get a watt meter to plug in between the appliance and the outlet.

Need to be careful with the carbon monoxide from these portables. Might want to run it on the swim step. If it's noisy you need to be concerned about the neighbors.

I have done this on the hard to charge my batteries if I can't get to an outlet in the boat yard. Worked fine.

I have stopped doing this in recent years after I bought a Bluetti power station. I plug that into the shore power outlet with the appropriate adapter. Less hassle, less noise.

Thanks for the feedback....I think a "power station " is the way to go fir us.

Cheers
