Hello Fellow Tugnuts:
We are looking at moving from an R-27 to R-29. Our R-27 is the Luxury Edition with generator and AC. Since we will cruise primarily in the Northwest, we are considering the Northwest Edition for the R-29. To supplement our power, we are thinking about getting a 2000 watt portable Honda/Yamaha generator. Please provide us with some feedback on this idea.
Thank you
Charlie & Julie

I have it all and still use the Honda. I put it up in the bow and let it idle during the day.. Runs quietly for hours Keeps batteries topped .. I have a cooler and a freezer as well as the wine fridge and kitchen fridge running all the time.. As well my batteries are 5 years old so they like the help. Although in a sunny day the solar panel pretty much keeps up. I would rather put hours on the Honda then the built in generator.. I haven't tried the A/C with the Honda .. At idle the Honda is pretty quiet ... But if using lots of power I use the built in generator as it is quieter. If purchasing new I would not pay the price for the built in generator.

Good morning,
We have the 2000wt Honda & love it.
If you choose to anchor out allot as we do it's a necessaty, If you plan on going from marina to marina don't spend the money.

Thank you for the input...it helps validate what we have been thinking but did not know factually! It is interesting that you run it at idle it seems quite a bit!

I don't think if you have A.C. that the Honda 2000 will be able to run it. Last season we were in the Northwest and had some hot days where we did cruise while using the AC in the 90's. Except for one small container of gas for the dink's engine we don't have to or want to carry much gas. But as others have mentioned the diesel factory supplied generator comes at a much much higher cost than the Honda. But you already dropped a pile on the boat to start with. You can't get an easier setup to use generator wise using the factory supplied generator. The factory installed generator has it's place and you do not have to lug it around attach cords etc. Plus having store a portable generator somewhere and deal with keeping it out of rain, salt water, spray etc.. I like the idea of the generator having fuel supplied by the boats main fuel tank. We do however carry a Honda 2000 in the truck when we are trailering just in case we should need it. The Honda generator is a great tool to have around. Everyone is different. I would not in our situation have bought a boat with out one.
