John, of John's Folly, has rejuvenated the threat I started earlier in the summer about a possible Portland area gathering of Tugnuts. Several people responded with interest (I have a list somewhere on my laptop -- I think there were at least 12, maybe more). John suggested starting a new thread if folks were interested. David has already expressed some interest on the old thread. Although I have not been able to follow through on organizing anything, we would have an interest in joining something, if it happens. So I thought I would follow through on John's suggestion to start a new thread on this.

If others are interested, speak up via this thread. I can't promise to help much, or even be there -- our schedule is hard to predict. But it really would be great to meet up somewhere this month or next.

John, David -- you may be the primary planners at this point. But we will join you if we can.

Is Echo on the river someplace now?

We would be interested in getting together in late September with others.....Seajay 29'...Jerry and Cheryl Columbia City, OR

Yes, Echo is on the Columbia at the Rose City Yacht Club. Their marina is just next to Salty's, on Marine Dr NE.

We'd be interested, though I'm not sure if we'll have pulled the tug out of the Tualatin River by then. I'll plan to follow the posts and will have a better idea as the date draws nearer. Thanks Gin, js

Barb and I would certainly be interested in joining such a gathering. We have our Ranger 25SC berthed at the Port of Kalama marina, and always at the ready.

I called Columbia Crossings and they have lots of slips at Jantzen Bay. They are $25.00 per night. All are covered. I guess covered could be great if it happens to rain on our parade. Power is available. They have showers and bathrooms. The person I spoke with said she would check to see if they could offer a group rate. "Sheri" said she would call me back.

Jantzen Bay is within walking distance of lots of food and shopping. It is also drivable if someone wanted to come and not bring their boat. There are several Hotel\Motels on the island. I know Jantzen Bay is not the most scenic place in the world but it is convenient for a bring your boat and worry about supplies when you get there weekend. I bet someone could bring a full sized BBQ and we could just roll it down to the docks for easy cooking.

Does anyone have a suggestion for someplace different?

We checked out that moorage as a possible place to keep our boat. It would feel a bit like we are in the thick of the land activities in the more congested area of Hayden island. And being under cover in nice weather can be like sitting in a garage. But it would have some benefits too, like Norma's kitchen, which we have heard nothing but good things about.

If we want to do a marina on Hayden Island, Hayden Bay might work too. Same ownership (Columbia crossings). Quieter, if that matters. A bit more proximate to the river if a few folks want to cruise a bit together. Last I knew, lots of open slips. The Island Cafe at Tomahawk may be within walking distance (not sure). Someone on this forum is, or at least was, moored there. Maybe a Cutwater?

Not holding a torch for Hayden Bay. Just throwing the idea out. In a perfect world, I'd say we should go down river to Astoria! But for a first meet up, something's uncomplicated makes good sense.

If there is someone that is a CRYC member and we could all tie up to the breakwater that would be a ton of fun! It's still a short walk to all the stores.

Anyone a CRYC member?

Island Cafe is at McCuddys and very walkable from Hayden Bay. Hidden Bay Cafe is at Tomahawk Bay clear at the end of The Island by Sundance Marina. Norma's, Safeway, West Marine, Burger King, Taco Bell, Denny's, The Red Lion, Starbucks, Mc Donalds, and most importantly the Liquor Store are all walkable from Hayden Bay too.

I'm not married to Hayden Island, I just spend a lot of time there. I'm up for anything, It's just hard to make suggestions when you are not familiar with something. Anyone that's in Multnomah Chanel have any thoughts? One thing to keep in mind is that anyone with a 21 might like to be near a shower in the morning.

I do agree that for a first meet up something uncomplicated makes good sense.

Hi all,
We are taking delivery of a new 29 Ranger named Spindrift in Mid Sept and look forward to meeting up with Portland Ranger people. I will monitor this site for developments. Spindrift will be moored at St. Helens Marina. We'd probably go anywhere to meet up but our preference is for less crouded spots such as Coon Island on the channel, or Hadley's.

We have our Cutwater 28, now named Northwest Passage at Hayden Bay Marina. We would love to meet up with others if the timing works out. We like Hayden Bay for the peace and quiet and the proximity to the river. There may be temporary moorage available, but would have to check with Columbia Crossings. We never know when we will be on the boat so sometimes short notice might work for us. We have passed a few Ranger Tugs coming and going and always wave to our sisters and brothers, or would it be cousins?
