Just reading some posts of the Salish 100 folks on facebook and as small boats and constrained by space one person was suggesting using mule tape as a solution for a stern tie. Seems like a compact solution. Sure it might not float but a buoy might solve that well enough but could be quite a compact solution for 500ft of line for our boats too. https://www.amazon.com/Made-2500-Pu...ocphy=9033305&hvtargid=pla-571234287553&psc=1

Hard to grip, very hard to untie after load, Low elongation well, it don't stretch so no damping on cleats..I love the stuff and have used it a lot but don't think it is good for boats.

thanks for the insights!

I like the 'compact' aspect for this mule tape. 500-feet of floating line does take up a lot of space for sure. If I were to use this I would opt for the Orange colored tape. I've seen too many stern tied boats using lines that are hard to see and that presents danger to others. I almost steered over a sailboat's stern tie line entering Roche Harbor one year because the stern tie line was black with some of it laying on the water's surface.
