Possible cause of no responsive steering on 29s

Having problem with steering slipping/ not responding on29s. Hydraulic issue?? Any ideas! Am on the water now.
 
Found the problem! Make sure"Heading Hold" is off!!!
 
You did not indicate what auto pilot you have. If you have a Garmin autopilot you should be able to steer with the auto pilot on heading hold. There is a transducer that is installed to allow you to make course changes while using auto pilot. This is a nice feature that Garmin has. This is called shadow drive. This must be installed properly and the sensitivity adjusted properly to work properly. When it is set up as per manufactures specifications. When the helm is manually turned the transducer allows the captain to make manual adjustments. When the helm is no longer being used (steered) the auto pilot again takes over.
