Posting a picture in text box

Any easy way to copy and paste a picture into this space? I see that I am not authorized to post attachments... Don't know if that has anything to do with it. Thanks.

I use Dropbox. I upload my image to my Dropbox. I then copy the public link of the Dropbox file and use the Img tab to insert the public Dropbox link.

After a month or two I will delete the files from my Dropbox to preserve space.

I use Yahoo photos aka Picassa Web. Free uploads with practically unlimited for any size photos and unlimited storage if you allow Picassa Web to downsize to no more than 2048 x 2048 Pixels. If the album you have on Picassa is public which it needs to be, you can size them to the 700 pixel maximum allowed by TugNuts as you get the link to a photo you want to post. Since you can have unlimited storage, you never have to delete them and the link never goes away.

One question Barry...after deleting a photo from Dropbox...doesnt the pic disappear from the Tugnuts post? Since the webaddress between the things is no longer valid. If it will still work, thats a good method you describe.

There are two ways to include inline images in posts. One is discussed above, using the img tag. As noted, removing the image from it's public server will break the link.

The other method is to use the g2Img tag to display an image in your tugnuts photo album. These, and many other, tags and methods are described in the FAQ and BBCode tutorials on this site. Links to them are in the Help section in the blue box - upper left corner of the homepage.

If you don't have a photo album, it's easy but it requires submitting a request from within the site structure.

1. Sign on to the site, if you aren't already.

2. Select the User Control Panel link from the upper left corner of any page. Note: On the home page, this link is in your user menu.

3. Click the Usergroups tab, then select the radio button next to the User Albums group.
Scroll down, choose "Join selected" in the drop-down menu, and click the Submit button.

Once you do this, an email is automatically sent to the administrator (me). That message will trigger my ability to approve your request, and you'll receive an email indicating your membership in the User Albums group has been activated.

I'll watch for the message, and look forward to seeing your pictures.

Yes... when removing the file from Dropbox the photo download to Tugnuts will go poof and leave a broken link icon "?" in its place. I assume, after a few months nobody will care, and if they do they can PM me and I can reinstate them. Photos with the 700 x 700 pixel don't consume too much space so it's not really an issue for me as I do have plenty of free Dropbox space.

As Bruce has indicated... to preserve photos 'forever' load them to your Tugnut photo album and reference them using the g2Img tab method.

You can practice with each method using the [color=#0000FF]Preview[/color] before committing the post with [color=#0040FF]Submit[/color].

Bruce, When I click on g2Img to post a photo from my gallery inline to a msg, the "wheel of death" spins and I get a blank screen on Chrome and an error message on Explorer. May I have a hint as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks /Stu

Hi Stuart - Sorry, I can't recreate the error message you were getting. I was able to launch the g2Img window quickly using Safari, Firefox, and Chrome on my MacBook Pro.

It's possible the server was not responding, or there was a router problem somewhere along the line. Try again and PM me if you continue to have problems.

Hello Stuart,

Whilst the "g2Img" is ONE way to post a pic...the way I frequently use is to open a SECOND window of Tugnuts with my photo album showing...that way I can easily scan the album, click on the pic I want, then right click and highlight the "copy image location" then switch to the other window where I'm actually creating the "post", click 'Img' which puts the cursor perfectly between the brackets, then right click and paste. Click "preview" to check your work and continue with post...

I open the second tugnuts.com window using a 'tab' at the top of my browser, so there's really just 'one' window of Firefox open but multiple 'tabs' at the top.

Sorry if I've created more confusion.
