Has anyone updated their iPad to iOS 8.3? If so, have you had trouble using an external GPS (such as Garmin GLO) while using a Garmin navigation app? We received an email from Seattle Avionics Software (see below) warning about a problem with ADS-B - the aviation version of nautical AIS. On a previous iOS upgrade I had problems with the Garmin Blue Chart app and had to wait for the next upgrade for the problem to be fixed. I hesitate to upgrade to iOS 8.3 without confirmation that it will not cause a problem. Thanks in advance.

from Seattle Avionics Software: Do not install iOS 8.3 to your iPad if you use a Bluetooth GPS or Bluetooth ADS-B receiver. iOS 8.3 has a bug with its Bluetooth support that makes Bluetooth-based GPS and ADS-B receivers from Dual, Garmin, and Bad Elf fail to work properly. There is no issue with Wi-Fi based ADS-B systems.

I read on Active Captain if you are having issues for some nav apps if you change the orientation of the Ipad ( turn the device sideways or if sideways turn it up and down) It fixes it....just passing this on.. Hope it helps

Hi Santolina;

You are correct. We have the same problem after upgrading our ipad to 8.3. Neither Navionics or Garmin Bluechart mobile can determine location from our Dual GPS unit, or from Bad Elf GPS. Hopefully there wil be a fix in the next IOS upgrade. So to those who have not upgraded to IOS 8.3 and have Navionics or Garmin Bluechart, stay with 8.2.

I always wait at least one month before I update my operating system to allow the app people to apply fixes. The last time I updated it took Garmin about 2.5 months to fix the bug. When doing a search it would crash.

Thanks, Mike and Norm. I will refrain from updating and will stick with 8.2.
