Planning ahead to be a 27 ranger tug owner.
I want anything I buy in the next 12 months to transfer to my new life style, so what are some good pots and pans to buy for cooking for 1 to 3 people that I will be able to use on my Ranger?

We use those stackable type. I love them. We got them at a boat show for around $100. I don't know the brand, all I know is they stack with the tops and they also have plastic covers for each size. They fit in my oven on the R27. They even come with a frying pan. They have detachable handles.

Nice. Please look on bottom if any name is etched. Are they non stick or something else?
Thank you for your input

I have the Magma brand stacking set. Nice heavy duty pieces, not non- stick (although I think they also come that way) and available in cobalt blue!! Also in the natural steel of course.

I got one non stick ceramic coated fry pan for eggs and such, and I can cook anything 🙂

The prior post of pugtug613 has it right as far as we're concerned; you can't beat the set she describes . . . we lived on a R27 for 2 1/2 years and used "the boat show nesting pots/fry-pan with detachable handle" every nite. Despite the fact that we used to own a French Restaurant and have "all the gear" at home, I almost kept the things because . . . well, they're great! Unfortunately, we don't know the brand either . . . but if you buy our boat . . . they're on the "equipment list" . . .

🙂 ; just kidding (sort of) .

Magma sets for sure, as good as anything you find in a great kitchen at home and real smart, compact design.

I hunted around the Internet and think I found the Magma alternative that is sold at boat shows...it's from Galleyware, and except for a slightly different lid option it seems about equal in every way, except that it's much less expensive. Galleyware even comes with an extra set of plastic snap on lids for the pots.

We have the Galleyware stacking set and have been very satisfied with the quality. We purchased the set from Defender 2 years ago at their warehouse sale.

We just bought the Magma 10-piece non-stick off Amazon for $202 (compared to $269 from Magma.) The galleyware 12-piece non-stick is $159. Both sets have the same number of pots & pans the difference is the galleyware comes with 4 plastic covers and is missing a lid for the stock pot that the Magma has. The Magama also comes with a bungee strap to hold everything together, although we bought an optional colander for the set which prevents the stock bungee cord from working. Add in shipping of $28 to the galleyware set (versus free Amazon prime shipping) and it's almost a wash. We like Amazons return policy so that's the way we went.

Second thumbs up on the Magma set though Amazon. Great quality. Good value.

The Magma set at Fisheries Supply in Seattle is $161.XX. We just bought a second set for the boat during the Seattle boat show as we have a set in our camper. I don't know anything about the Galleyware but the Magma gets a big thumbs up from us. Ours are both the stainless set. I did notice that Magma made a non-stick set.

We have a Magma set that has worked great on our R25SC. Now we are moving into the R27 that has both a stovetop and an oven. Are there any recommendations for bakeware for oven use? Are people using the Magma pans in the oven? Also wondering how often people use their ovens and what they like to bake onboard.

Muffins are quick, easy, and a real nice warm treat once underway. You can get a muffin tin with just 6 cups - perfect.

I, like a lot of tug owners, use the oven to store stuff. Then forget that there is stuff when I heat it up. Stuff happens.

Hydraulic : on my oven it says "look inside before heating"

Refreshing this post. We bought the Magma cookset and love it. But Activecaptain members are getting a break on the Galleyware cookset on Defender. Worth a look if you are shopping.
