primary fuel filter heat shield

R25 2008 yanmar 4jh4 HTE 110 hp. Is the heat shield really necessary around the primary fuel filter? The clamps broke but I think that it is unnecessary.
 
I’ve had my heat shield off for more than 4 years. I see no effects because of it. I find it makes the replacement of the filter much easier.
