Wondering if anyone has recent intel on this? Planning a Gulf Islands trip this summer. I have heard some saying proof of $2Million is needed at some marinas. The not-so-friendly Ganges Marina has $1 Million with the demand of proof clearly stated on their website. Salt Spring Marina (super friendly) says nothing, nor does Telegraph Harbor. My Liability is $500K, but I also have a $1M Umbrella. Wondering if that would be good enough if they are stacked? I have heard of this before, but in several trips no one has asked to see it nor had an astronomical expectation of $2M.

I plan on having a copy of my umbrella policy which lists my boat hull id number as covered along with my regular boat insurance. So 500k boat coverage and 1 million umbrella comes out to more than 2 million Canadian. We also have over a million in fuel spill/environmental coverage. It will have to be good enough. So far in the last few years we have never been asked to see the paper work but you never know.

CAD $2MM.
I'm moored there.

On the websites most BC marinas say the want proof of liability insurance. In 13 seasons of cruising to 30+ different BC marinas totaling about 100 different stays from Victoria to the Broughtons I have been asked to provide my liability insurance to the marina four times.
My boat policy has $1 Million US liability coverage AND a $1Million spill coverage. It also has a separate $1 Million uninsured boater coverage. I also have a $1 Million umbrella policy from my home insurance company. That has always been fine. I have never been turned away.
Actually, I’ve had to provide proof of insurance at more US marinas than the ones in Canada.
If you’re worried just make copies of your policy coverage summary pages and keep some in the boat for use at both US and Canadian marinas.

Thank you all for the advice! Looking forward to maybe seeing you up there in July. We’re doing Ganges, Pirates Cove, Telegraph and a few other places
