I'm doing the great loop and yesterday crossing the Gulf of Mexico, right in the middle of the 80 mile trip, apparently I sheared the prop key. Couldn't make contact with the Coast Guard, no cell phone coverage, but luckily my Garmin InReach Satellite device was able to make contact and I got towed in finally. This is probably the only place in the 7000 mile trip that I couldn't make contact with someone.

After getting towed in last night, I tried to start it this morning and also got the "Shifter not in neutral" warning so I have two new solenoids on the way from RT.

What I haven't been able to find is the specs for the prop key. Anyone know the size. I'm in a little town on the west coast of FL with lots of boats but all outboards. The maintenance place may have one, but need the size.

Thanks,
Chris Boyd

Hey Chris,

Sorry to hear about your prop key. I don't have the exact size but the prop is a Acme 1386, I tried calling them at 1-888-661-ACME but they have already closed. Unless someone has replaced this before You could call them in the AM and I am sure they could give you the exact size. Be sure to have the shop inspect the shaft to ensure the key way isn't worn out which could cause this happen again. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Thanks Kevin! Aaron in parts was able to run down the supplier and find the specs in their catalog. He says that he is going to keep a few on hand.

Looks like I'm going to be changing the shifting solenoids as well and they are on the way from parts.

Thanks!
