Came across this Ranger Tug dealer promoting a special deal on a 2012 R27. One of the things being thrown into the deal is a "Free Prop Speed" valued at $1350. Anyone have any idea what that is? I don't have a clue.

Here's the link: http://www.wildeyachts.com/yacht-listings/2012-ranger27

Ah, I see now that the dealer should have made it one word. That would have helped my effort to search for it on the internet. My two-word search yielded more irrelevant results than I could shake a stick at. Thanks for resolving the mystery for me!

Like bottom painting the prop, I take it. Seems expensive . . .

I think that Wilde Yachts is no longer a Ranger Tug dealer. They probably have a leftover R27....maybe an opportunity for a good buy.

Propspeed, as pointed out by Gini, is bottom paint for your prop and or running gear. We've never used it but I know of many that have and with mixed results. The results are in direct correlation to how the product has been applied.....temperature of metal, outside temperature, proper preparation of the surface, etc. When applied properly people I know that have used it say it works. The price you quote of $1,350 sounds like a great deal of money to me, especially considering the product sells for between $110 and $200 per quart. In addition if one were to invest in this product i would think it would be best for boats that are in the water most of the time, certainly not for those that trailer their boat a lot. I guess it's a good thing the dealer is "throwing" the propspeed in on a boat purchase!

Is this the same thing as a clear friction reducing coating that is applied to the prop to presumably decrease the generated friction between prop and water ? I've seen a coating on a prop in my Marina's boat yard last year and when I wet two of my fingers and dragged them across the prop blade it was super super slippery. 🙂 I would assume there's a different product for this benefit based on the boat being in fresh water and salt water.
