Propane locker lid shape

Does anyone know why the lid on the propane locker is not flat on the port side? It is somewhat raised.

I have always assumed it was to fit a specific gas can with a spout. Our can does not fit unless the spot is invertered into the can. It is my understanding the newer propane boxes do not have this bump.

Is there supposed to be a seal on the top edge of the locker?

Never had a seal.

Ours has a small rubber or foam seal around the edge.

Yeah, we do have a black grommet around the lid edge but I don’t think it seals anything. Just adds a cleaner look.
