Does anyone have an opinion about relative strengths / weaknesses between the two - other than the obvious electric power requirement when at anchor? Is the relative size available to cook something roughly the same? Does anyone regret getting the micro/convection oven vs putting in the propane? Thanks. Trying to decide

We have the propane and think it is a good choice, no need for generator on the hook, controlled heat while cooking. I would say that the oven is not the greatest. Only used it once. Great for storage of pots and pans. Perhaps just a propane stovetop and cabinet below for storage would work better.

Having used propane on many sailboats, I can say that we have cooked many fabulous meals on the hook using stove and oven. Some safety factors but if you use the procedure all will be good. Much rather have the propane setup than just a microwave or electro grill . This
Being said we have the "Classic" with the Wallas diesel stove and no oven. It has many advantages that I have appreciated and used . Heating of cabin , simplicity and the best popcorn on the hook I have ever had

Thanks for the feedback on the propane and diesel Wallas stove. I am told that the majority of tugs sold on east and gulf coast have the electric cooktop and the combo convection/microwave oven.

This thread is intriguing - I ordered the propane stove, does that mean no microwave? My assumption is that the propane cooktop subs for the electric one with no other changes. Am I wrong?

I didn't go for the genset - had a bad experience on my previous sailboat (Jeanneau 45.2) and a Fisher Panda which caused no end of trouble as well as being too load. If i decide I need a generator, I'll run a Honda in the cockpit.

Love having the propane oven on board. we use it all the time. The microwave is actually a storage box for us, rarely use it. Love the fact that we can have something cooking away in the oven while returning to our slip and its ready when we are all tied up. We have about a 25 minute ride up the river all no wake zone to get into our slip. Leaves enough time to have French toast casserole baked and ready to eat when we get back from a trip

Bob (Dorval Ranger), one of the options for a R-31 is to delete the microwave and substitute a convection/microwave combination oven in lieu of the electric or propane oven. The microwave spot on the port side becomes a storage compartment. The tug we are looking at purchasing has this configuration. Your ordered tug will still have the microwave unless you requested it be removed. I am told the micro/convection can run off the inverter but I suspect that is a very heavy draw and not one to be repeated a lot without charging. The tug does have a generator.

Thanks Corey! I guess the microwave will be used at the dock. DIdn't have one on my sailboat so I don't think it will be a big deal.

Best,
Bob
