I strongly recommend painting new tanks on the bottom half in rust resistant paint and then a rubber coating paint to help avoid rust and the inevitable rust trails on the swim step.

a can of each from Home depot and a red brillo pad is all you need

I used this stainless steel reinforced U Channel. Left over from the instrument panel safety edging on my former airplane. Put it around the bottom edge of the propane tanks and around the handle openings. Tight fit and holds up well.

Thank You for the tip on Edge Guard. I have enough left over to do my tanks at home (6?). Only $12. No more rust rings!
