Has anyone installed a propeller cage on Ranger 25, or any other model for that matter? Maine coastal waters are teeming with lobster pot buoys now, and I think a cage for the prop may be a prudent addition. I know it will affect speed, but that is a good trade off for a wrapped prop. Thanks.

Not sure if you have enough clearance between the back of the prop and the cutless, but a line cutter may be a better option. I seem to remember a manufacturer, Shaft Shark, that had a pretty good one that was only 3/4 of an inch thick.

I ordered a Prop-protector (http://www.prop-protector-usa.com/rope_cutters/) - 1.25" shaft, clamp-on for $289.12. It went very easily with the boat on the trailer. I have no idea if it works, but then again, if it works, I would have no indication other than a lack of problems...

Thanks for your input. I have ordered a Shark Shaft from Defender Marine:http://search.defender.com/?expression=shaft%20shark&s=1&Trigger=ac. Seems like the best way to go instead of adding a cage, which may not be possible anyway

The floating seaweed along our coastal waters is getting thicker by the groves. A Prop-Protector is a great tool to get through it when ya can't get around it. Thank you 'T.K.' for giving Tugnuts direct-access to the Prop-Protector Website to

Glad to be of assistance....TK

The original owner of my '08 R- 25 "Lydia" was from Maine, and had.a prop guard and a cutter installed on the prop shaft. I am presently 95% complete doing the Great Loop and believe I snagged the exess crab pot line, which was floating horizontal just below the water surface while in the Gulf in Florida.l had the boat pulled while in Marathon and noted zero damage. If you're interested, I can find some pics and send them to you.

Who makes prop-cages that fit right on RangerTugs? During installation of a prop-cage, is any drilling through the hull required? Will any additional anodes be needed? What is the total approximate cost? I've never seen or heard of one of these inventions before.
