Have not seen a discussion on props. I'm about to purchase a 2012 Ranger Tug R27 with the factory prop. Has anyone any recommendations as to what the best prop is for this boat or is the factory supplied one the best all around? If anyone can share some thoughts on this issue, it would be appreciated.

I have a 2011 R-27 and am very happy with the prop that came on my boat. Full throttle gets me to 4,000 rpms and 20 knots....just what it's supposed to do.

Why mess with the factory prop? I'm sure they did a bit of research before deciding on which one to use.

It's a good question, especially if your thinking about getting a spare prop. Why buy the SAME? Even if your boat is 'perfectly' propped currently, there might be a "better" prop for different conditions. Like cruising at altitude in some of the lakes in Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, or Montana. Some might find it useful to have a more aggressive prop for times when you have a lightly loaded boat...or a heavier loaded boat.

Now, CHANGING your prop...that's a whole different kettle of fish. And a good excuse to buy (another) new tool 😉

Thanks for the input. I was reading about the different types and characteristics of props and it got me thinking about the issue and whether the factory prop was the best one. My limited experience has shown me that sometime manufacturers don't necessarily put the best piece of gear on an item due to cost and they settle for a middle of the road solution. Since I don't hear any negatives reference the factory installed prop nor any re propping solutions, I will assume that what is on the boat is satisfactory.
Again, thanks for the quick response.

Just make sure you can reach your top rpms with the boat loaded, fuel, H2O, gear. My cutwater28 struggled with just me and the Volvo tech. I now have a prop that's smaller by 2 inches of pitch.

Btw boats are like people, as they get older their waist size tend to get larger !

I think Ranger has done a great job with engineering and using quality products on their boats. The tug line has been around for a while and most of the kinks seem to have been worked out. I have the R-27 and think that the prop has been sized well.
