Our Ranger 25SC will be coming to its new home in a few weeks. We really want to have a pudding and beard made for her. We visited Marlinspike studio today but now have some concerns. Will the anchor get tied up on it? Is there a way to place it down lower so that will not happen? Even though we love the look, it will not be worth it if it causes problems. May have to settle on just getting fenders.

Congrats on your new boat and welcome to Tugnuts. I see you are from RI, where will home be for the boat? We keep our 25SC Gansett Ranger in Warwick Cove.

We live in Narraganset and she will be at the Point Judith Yacht Club....about a mile from home.

Regarding the pudding you may have an issue with retrieving the anchor. On the stock anchor bow roller assembly the anchor can swing back towards the boat. I installed a Rocna 15 anchor and moved the roller assembly out as far as it would go to accommodate it. I guess it would determine how much room you would have between the anchor and the pudding. You may have to be up on the bow when retrieving the anchor to make sure it doesn't get hung up on the pudding. Depending on how much rode you have out you will have to be up there anyway to coil the rode and chain back into the anchor locker. Another thought is the pudding would hold salt against the gelcoat, the gelcoat behind the pudding would not oxidize as the rest of the boat. How easy is it to remove and re-install if needed? But hey it certainly would look cool! 🙂

I did not think about the gel coat....point well taken. No pudding for us!
