Ok, So tomorrow is the opener for spot shrimp in Puget Sound. 8am -12pm May 25 for many marine areas. Would love to hear successes (and failures) from anyone who goes out. Ran in to a beautiful Cutwater 32 at the fuel dock at Shilshole tonight getting ready to go. I'll likely be out in front of Edmonds. Hope to see you out there and good luck!!!

Good luck!!

I’m actually out of town, returning tomorrow. So I’ll miss the opener. I’ve also decided to skip the rest of the week as I’ve got one last boat project to finish so I can get all my tools off the boat.

But…

There are 3 more weeks of shrimp season for San Juan Islands…
I still got time to fill my freezer. 🙂

Well, we hit the water with high hopes and tossed our first pot at 8am sharp. However, we had a few equipment issues and a sick crew member, so we had to cut our day short and pulled up our last pot at only 10:30. We fished three pots for 2 1/2 hours and got 129 spot prawns - not a record haul by any means. Talking to others at the dock, most folks said it was 'ok' - definitely not the best year anyone had seen but as the dockhand said "you are still gonna eat well tonight" and I couldnt argue with that.

Hoping to hear how others fared as well.

We went to Browns bay north of Edmonds. Averaged 50 shrimp per pull It was tough to dump shrimp back in after we got our 3 limits. We always do good there but too many people. We had at least 1/2 our pulls get tangled with other peoples pots and got a line caught in the prop. I almost prefer catching less shrimp and not having to deal with so many people. I really can’t believe those people that want to fly by you 20 ft away at 20-30 mph and kick up a huge wake. But dinner that night made it all worth it.

Three people and four pots about a mile off Pleasant Harbor in Hood Canal produced an embarassing 45 shrimp on two pulls. Others reported spotty results in that area but further south at Black Point (where there was a gazillion boats) did much better.

We will either go there tomorrow, or Dabob Bay or Pt Whitney to the north, and see what the shrimp gods have in store for us.
