I have a 2018 C30 with the satellite dish for TV. I'd like to pull the dish as I don't plan to use it.
Is there like a satellite receiver or some equipment inside the boat? Or, is all the stuff inside the dish dome?
If it's just all contained in the dish dome, I'll just cut wires. If it runs through special cables and to an interior receiver, I will pull cables without cutting them.

Are you sure it is actually a dish? Ranger has had a dome for placing the TV antenna. One may think it is satellite, but it is not. If it is satellite there would be a receiver located somewhere in the boat.

I don't know about your year/model specifically, but it's likely you have a digital broadcast TV antenna in the dome. That's been the case in all four of the Ranger Tugs we've owned. Standard practice for all Fluid Motion boats. The menu on the TV allows you to scan for channels available. Each time you change location you rescan.

You can confirm this by contacting your dealer with you hull number for build details.

Cheers,

Bruce

my cutwater 28 has a KVH satellite (not the dome digital antenna) and have a corresponding decoder box located in the hanging cupboard in the main cabin to port. (opposite the head)

I'm confused about this as well. I haven't looked closely, but my boat (2018 R-31CB) has a dome which says KVH Tracvision on it. KVH does not make terrestrial TV antennas; they're a satellite only outfit and Tracvision is their marine satellite antenna brand.

Photos of the R-31CB (and other Ranger Tugs, but not all RTs) shows the Tracvision dome.

Separately, I found a manual on board for a disc-shaped TV antenna, but I don't actually see that antenna physically located anywhere.

I can't find a "receiver" satellite unit anywhere on my boat, but I haven't looked for it specifically.

So, yeah, wondering what's up!

I supposedly have the dish up there. The owner I bought it from says he puchased it new and it was empty and then complained to the factory and now there is a dish up there. Just no box anywhere.

It’s like a $2k piece of equipment so if the dome is there I’m hoping the dish is too!

I'm away from the boat and can't check, but my understanding -- for our C30 with the same tracvision dome -- is the same as Bruce's. Namely, that the standard install is a terrestrial TV antenna that they put inside that somewhat misleading KVH plastic dome. Unlike Gavin, I have not seen evidence otherwise (need to open it and check next time!)

The KVH Tracvision domes only come with a digital antenna inside from the factory. It's satellite ready, however you must upgrade the system.

I just opened it up and there is a parabolic antenna up there with AZ an EL motors.

Sounds like every owner should complain to the factory about this?

Am I the only one who is a little tweaked that there would be a satellite branded/labeled dome with no actual satellite dish? Seems like they should just have put the terrestrial antenna up there, if that's all that's intended...

I don’t know about others but I knew what I was buying.

Standard and optional equipment is clearly specified for every boat. We've had 4 Ranger Tugs. There has never been any confusion or ambiguity about the dome, the digital antenna, and how to use it.

You won't find a satellite antenna and receiver spec'ed for any boat from the factory. Some dealers may offer an optional installation.

For those of us who buy the boats secondhand, I’ve never met a marine surveyor who checks the contents of the dome. I suppose I could have asked.

Is there a point to a dome labeled “Tracvision KVH” — which is a satellite antenna brand, and a satellite brand only — that doesn’t actually contain a satellite antenna? The dummy dome is $400 from Defender retail and not much cheaper with wholesale pricing. Is there anybody who wouldn’t have rather had $400 off the boat (or, say, $400 worth of other equipment)? I understand if there were two domes on a large yacht (that’s the point of the dummy), but otherwise?

It isn’t a big deal; I watch life TV maybe half a dozen times a year and don’t even have cable or satellite at home. It just strikes me as really weird and/or pointless ::shrug::

Pretty sure it’s a $5k option to have the kvh satellite setup at the factory. Yes a surveyor might not take the dome off but turning on the tv will show the cable box interface clearly showing it’s installed and there is a box installed in the closet? I’m confused at the confusion?

Just bought a used 2019 Cutwater 30 CB, is there a way to determine if the Satelitte anntenna was added short of opening the dome? Thanks,

Cutwater 28 GG, what is your monthly premium for the satellite dish? Is it capable of receiving the Dish network or Direct TV? Mine is just a glorified RV antenna and I would be interested in getting a satellite service as well.

Thanks, Terry
