Hi (I presume it's Andrew),

It's Grant Reynolds (user name Canuck), we talked last week re: the water heater on my 08 that I bought through Jay Kraft. Anyway, two new topics:
1. OK, I give up, where is the pump out port for the holding tank?

2. """""""""""""""", how do I turn the running lights on? I've switched all the switches on the 12 V panel and still no running lights.

Thanks,

Your pumpout port should be at the deck edge, horizontal in the deck, same kind of fitting as the fresh water fill, the diesel fill. Usually chrome plated and it will be marked "Waste", and use a "key" like the water/fuel fill uses. Usually the same key. Should be on the same side of the hull as the head is.

The nav light switch is a two position switch, usually marked "NAV" and "Anchor". It's off in the middle and should be in the panel near the helm with the other controls. If they lights don't come on when you push the "Nav" end, check your fuses. Make sure your battery switches are on too.

There have been other posts on this site concerning the light issue.

Thanks for that, but that description bears no resemblance to what I am looking at. There simply is no wasted fitting on the starboard side. Anybody?

Sorry, I don't have an R25 here to go look at.... In the R25 brochure, on the second page, at the bottom right, there is a picture of the stbd side. In addition to the overboards in the vertical side, there is some sort of fill fitting in the slanted deck edge just below the window second from the stern. That should be either your freshwater fill or your waste pumpout. Could be too that, if the waste tank is somewhere else on the boat, the waste pumpout will be there. If you go all around the deck, port/stbd and the stern, you should find it! I don't that's something they'd leave out, if it is, you've got one of a kind! There should be three fittings, fuel, water and waste. Usually embossed in the fitting. About 2" in diameter.

On Edit: Found this post about replacing the Stern Thruster where they had to move the waste tank to get at it.

"Well I finally tackled the job of installing the thruster and let's just say it was...painful! I tried everything I could think of, including moving the waste tank out of the way to get to the area. Here is what finally worked. First, the sealed thruster didn't really fit where the unsealed thruster did. The sealed thruster has the cables coming out the rear of the unit where the unsealed model did not. Luckily, it was just a matter of cutting off about an inch of the board the waste tank sits on. "

Sounds like the tank is around the stern area. Look there for the pumpout.

I'm sure Andrew or an R25 owner will chime in soon.

The pump out fitting on my R-25 is on the stern - next to the flag staff. You also need to ensure the Y valve (if you have one) is on the correct position. You access the Y- valve from the hatch inside the stern locker. In US waters, inside the 3 mile limit - the Y valve should be secured (locked) in that position anyway.

Did you find the Nav light switch? It's not at the DC panel - it's at the helm - along the strip of rocker switches that includes the wipers, etc.

There you go Canuck! Thanks Mac...I knew one of the R25 owners would chime in. After I found the post about having to move the waste tank to get to the stern thruster, I knew it had to be there. I saw that fitting in some of the pictures but, because it was on the stern, figured it had to be the fuel fill. Not so!

Hello Grant,

Sorry for the delay. Please give me a ring tomorrow and I will walk you through the process on how to empty the holding tank. Talk to you then!

PS: This is also in the R25 owners manual located in the technical bulletins section.

Depending on the year of your boat the pump out moved. On my 25 (2008) it is on the stern near the the flag staff and fuel fill. Look for a round fitting with two deep impressions in it, You should have rcvd a "watchman's" key that fits in the impressions. Turn counterclockwise and voila the port should open. You should now be able to use the pump out station. The Y Valve needs to be in the correct position and is a little bit of a hassle to move. The Ranger Owner Guide ,I believe steps you through this process. As for the running lights, I assume when you say " the 12 volt lights" you are talking of the light switches on the right side of the helm station. Look for a rocker switch that is in the middle position. This should be your Nav(Running) Light and Anchor light switch. On side does Nav Lights, middle is no lights and the other side is Anchor light only . I hope this helps. However after reading the reading the responses to your post. I see that the Guru himself has answered. Andrew will help you out with any question that we can't answer and then some. Believe me , he has helped me out many times.

Cheers,

Frank
