I will be doing the western loop from NY to Fla in a few years. My wife has to still work. (Sorry sweetie) Anyway, I have heard that pumping out can get a little pricey on that trip. Especially in Canada. An Airhead is $1000. Is it worth the cost? Then I can put more fresh water. ( A new tank of course)

The marinias I go to will pump out for free if you get $300.00 in fuel Otherwise is $30.00 We are in a different area now and pump outs are $11.00 but if your traveling long distance you should need fuel before you get too full in your holding tank .. I watch my guage and try to top up when I know it will hold $300.00 .
Have a great trip

I've heard the airhead is a good product so I guess it depends on how long you'll be keeping the boat after the cruise you mention. If you'll be keeping the boat a long time you could justify the expense but for a $1,000 plus labor, plus the new tank to convert for water it may be hard to justify the cost for a 6 month trip. Using the $13.00 I just paid for a pump out in the North Channel as a guide you could pump out once per week for 6 months and your cost would only be $338.00. Even at $20 per your cost would still be well under $1,000

As a purchaser of an Airhead two times over I can say for me the cost (though high) was worth it in terms of simplicity, lack of nasty odors and cost/convience of pump outs. We have one on our old sailboat and have ordered one for our R27. Having dealt with the funk of malfunctioning regular heads the Airhead wins hands down for me.

Ditto what the Masons said. As everyone knows I am a big advocate of the Airhead. Extra water and convenience, for me, are worth the cost. It wasn't a matter of saving on pump outs.

wow...everywhere I go in California, a pump-out is free...which is an elusive savings, as its in our taxes or fees somewhere!!
