R 13 A/C workaround.

Close to purchase of R23 without A/C but has a diesel heater. We are familiar with the small stand up a/c’s from Costco, Walmart,etc. Would this be a good substitute for very very expensive a/c aftermarket install because of space taken by diesel heater. Has anyone does this? Also boat doesn’t have generator, but has battery charger and inverter.

Should I invest in small portable generator for periodic cockpit (outside) use.

All thoughts or advise is helpful. Thank you

This has been discussed several times over the last few months. Search is your friend. If you get a portable AC unit, get one with two hoses, not a single hose unit as the dual hose units are more efficient. Yes you will need a small portable generator as the battery/inverter will not be able to run the AC unit for very long, if at all depending on how big an AC unit you get.

My a/c was not working for awhile and I considered this option. Big consideration is where you are going to run the hose to the outside. If you figure that out I like the idea of having this type of a/c especially if you get one that can also dehumidify. Unlike the factory air you do not need to be in the water for it to work. Can leave it on using shore power while at the dock or on a trailer (when the house a/c quits on you or you need another bed for company).
Shop and compare paying attention to weight and measurements. On the R27 I was looking for one that could store in the cave and be out of the way. Have not purchased yet as I got the a/c fixed. Still might do it.
